Elections to the Sami Parliament

Elections to the Sami Parliament are held every third Sunday in May, every fourth year. All Sami people who are registered and have been recorded in the electoral roll for elections to the Sami Parliament of Sweden may vote.

Three authorities manage the election

The administrative tasks related to the election of the Sami Parliament are divided between the following authorities:

  • The Sami Parliament’s Electoral Board,
  • The County Administrative Board in Norrbotten county,
  • The Swedish Electoral Authority.

The Sami Parliament’s Electoral Board

Sami Parliament’s Electoral Board is responsible for establishing the electoral roll as well as organizing election venues and centres.

The County administrative board in Norrbotten

The County administrative board in Norrbotten is responsible for the final tally, among other tasks, and decides potential appeals that pertain to the preliminary electoral roll.

The Swedish Election Authority

The Swedish Election Authority is responsible for coordinating the election and is responsible for voter cards, registration of groups, parties and other similar associations and their candidates, as well as printing ballots.
